‘Young Economist Challenge’ To Witness Keen Contest Among 21 Scholars In Six Teams

Dubai Economy has received entries from six teams comprising 21 scholars for its ‘Young Economist Challenge,’ an innovative competition aimed to promote knowledge exchange among the young talent across higher education institutions, raise their awareness on key economic issues and enable them to contribute to economic development in the UAE. The competition is part of the ‘UAE Economic Forum 2019,’ which is being held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, at the Armani Hotel Dubai from 11 to 12 December 2019.

Through the contest Dubai Economy aims to achieve five strategic goals; further integrate the academia into economic development; empower young people to contribute to economic development; promote academic research on the economy; stimulate innovation and creativity, as well as recognise academic excellence and performance.

Mariam Al Afridi, Director of the Government Communication in Dubai Economy, said: “We are pleased to receive six teams representing various universities and academic institutions in the UAE in the first round of the Young Economist Challenge held alongside the inaugural UAE Economic Forum. We look forward to a greater level of participation in the next cycles of the contest. Dubai Economy has provided the team with all resources required to facilitate their participation in the challenge and the discussions that will take place on both days of the Forum. Each team must provide a summary of the recommendations and proposed policies within 26 December 2019. ”

Added Al Afridi: “Participating teams must adhere to the conditions and deadlines for submitting the summaries as specified by the jury in the Dubai Economy. The teams will be evaluated based on several criteria, including: the comprehensiveness of the summary, the discussions presented, and recommendations on current and proposed policies in addition to references to the subject of study and the general structure of the abstract.”

Participation in the contest was open to senior year students in economics, business or related subjects from academic institutions accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education Each team consists two to four students and each institution was allowed to nominate one team only per session at the Forum.

The UAE Economic Forum builds on the success of the ‘UAE Economic Outlook Forum’ and the ‘Emirates Economic Planning Forum’ over the last six years, combining them into a single event this year. The event will be a showcase of the aspirations and future plans of all economic departments and the Ministry of Economy in the UAE.
