Author Sheikha Salama Bint Hazza Al Nahyan Partners With Star Education Schools To Educate Students On The UAE Heritage By Emirati Culture

Star Education, a bespoke network of British educational institutions in Dubai, has partnered with HH Sheikha Salama Bint Hazza to honor the author’s novels through a series of projects and theatre performances through two of its schools: Star International School Al Twar and Star International School Mirdif. This summer, HH Sheikha Salama began her initiative to partner with schools around Dubai to celebrate her Emirati culture inspired books, beginning with Bright Learners Private School and now with Star Education schools.

Sheikha Salama’s books revolve around a series of themes and lessons for children to learn from. Her literature focuses on morality, community, greed, and a number of other life lessons for young ones to explore. In order for children to dive into these stories, as well as to celebrate the Emirati culture that inspired the publications, the Sheikha began her initiative this summer to reach out to as many schools as possible and engage with their student body. This summer, Salama has spread her initiative to Star Education.

The two Star Education campuses rolled out the week-long partnership on Sunday, June 20th lasting until Thursday, where the students dove into the world of the Sheikha’s books. At Star International School Al Twar, the staff introduced the books to the students by demonstrating how the children can utilise their talents to create something for everyone. The school’s Year 3 to Year 8 students participated in readings and discussions of the themes and lessons of each of the Sheikha’s five books: Well of Mysteries, Umm Al Nar, The Invisible Orphans, The Horse, The Saluki & The Falcon, and A Play on Children’s Rights. Additionally, for the end of the academic year, the primary school children began preparing theatre projects which will be shared with the entire school surrounding the stories of each publication.

At Star International School Mirdif, primary students from Year 3 to 6 analyzed the themes of the Well of Mysteries, Umm Al Nar, and The Invisible Children. The young students had the opportunity to discuss the negative impacts of greed, the value of community in their lives, as well as the importance of learning new skills and helping their peers around them, all themes pertaining to each of the books that were focused on. However, Sheikha Salama’s literature will go beyond this one week partnership as it will extend into the following academic year for Star International School Mirdif.

In 2021/2022, secondary students at the Mirdif campus will follow a Moral Education curriculum, which will integrate Sheikha Salama’s A Play on Children’s Rights. Year 8 students will create personal creative responses for their Moral Education Art Awards in November based on their reading and interpretation of the book. Due to the premise of A Play on Children’s Rights being in maintaining morals throughout generations, students will be encouraged to interview family members and gain inspiration from their answers to create art, dances, speeches, drama, music, or more.
