Agoda Reveals Most Popular Places To Celebrate New Year’s Eve

Agoda.com, one of the world’s fastest growing digital travel platforms, revealed Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Tokyo as the destinations-of-choice for UAE travelers celebrating New Year’s Eve.

Dubai clinched top spot for the fourth consecutive year, with its combination of dazzling fireworks displays across the emirate and variety of outdoor activities during a time of year when the weather is at its best. More people are turning east this year to celebrate the New Year with new destinations such as Goa (#4) and Singapore (#9) entering the top ten list in 2019. Other Asian destinations include Tokyo (#3) and Bangkok (#5). Interestingly, London slipped several places from being the number two destination last year to number seven this year.

Continuing the trend for staycations as highlighted by Agoda in 2018, the UAE maintained the top spot in the list of top destination choices. Second and third places, however, saw new entrants Philippines (#2) and Thailand (#3) edge out last year’s Saudi Arabia and India.

Continuing to rise in popularity among UAE travelers, local cities clinched the first seven spots, led by Dubai (#1), Abu Dhabi (#2) and Sharjah (#3). Bangkok, in fourth place in 2018, fell to eighth place in 2019, while new entries to the list, Manila and Bali took the final two slots in this year’s top 10 cities list.

According to 2019 booking data from Agoda, Japan and Thailand continued to win hearts as the top Asian countries to visit for travelers across the globe. Among European countries, France took the crown, nudging the United Kingdom and Italy into second and third place for the year.

Meanwhile, Bangkok, Paris and Las Vegas were the top destination cities in Asia, Europe and North America respectively for the last 12 months. Bangkok and Las Vegas held on to their crowns as top destinations in their regions as compared to last year, while Paris replaced London as the most popular destination in Europe.
